Milkha Singh, the Flying Sikh

Born: 20.11.1929; Death: 18.06.2021

Birth place: Gobindpura in Pakistan

Only athlete to win gold at 400 metres at the Asian Games as well as the Commonwealth Games.

He also won gold medals in the 1958 and 1962 Asian Games.

Represented India in the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne, the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome and the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.

He finished at fourth-place with a timing of 45.73 seconds in the 400 metres final at the 1960 Olympic Games. His timing was the Indian national record for almost 40 years.

Awarded the Padma Shri in 1959
